Welcome to the new website for the Wendy Forrester Mediation Center. I hope that you will find everything you need here to understand what we do. Mediation provides families with a confidential, non-confrontational and economical approach to divorce. Divorce mediation allows families to control the outcome, rather than courts. Families can tailor the terms of divorce to meet their needs and values. As your mediator, I will guide you through the decision making process allowing each of you to be heard and understood on the issues of parenting, support and the division of your property and debt. You and your spouse will determine how each of these issues are decided. Please feel free to contact me with questions or concerns. Upcoming Mediation Courses

Wendy Forrester teaches mediation at UC Santa Barbara in the Mediation and Dispute Resolution Certificate Program. Mediation skills are valuable in a variety of professions, such as law, human resources and healthcare. Mediation skills improve working and personal relationships and increase productivity by creating a more positive workplace environment. These highly interactive courses are designed for those pursuing a career in dispute resolution and those seeking to develop communications skills for use in the workplace and in their personal lives. Beyond Reason: Understanding Emotions

The course provides an understanding of the emotions that drive conflict. Students learn a framework within which to identify and effectively deal with emotions in mediation and negotiation. The course is based in part on the book Beyond Reason: Using Emotions as You Negotiate by Roger Fisher and Daniel Shapiro. Through exercises and role plays students develop communications skills and strategies to prevent and resolve conflict.

Family Mediation

Family Mediation expands the notion of traditional family to post-modern family dynamics and issues, such as divorced and blended families, generational differences, eldercare issues and cross cultural relationships. Topics include understanding psychological aspects of family conflict, mediating family disputes, identifying interests, adapting to differences in communication styles and values to help families resolve emotional and financial concerns. This highly interactive course encourages students to participate in class discussions, role plays and exercises.
